Nutritionists agree: spaghetti aglio, olio di oliva e peperoncino is a healthy dish, especially for the over 60s

A simple, quick and, above all, healthy, recipe.

Spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino is a traditional Italian recipe, also called 'spaghettata di mezzanotte' as it's the perfect late-night dish to share with friends.

Besides being easy to make, experts have said that this dish is also healthy, especially for those over 60.

Let's see why.

It appears that the trick lies in the few, yet powerful ingredients, that make this dish so tasty and yet healthy.

Garlic and oil are good for the heart, regulate the metabolism, fight bad cholesterol and help to sleep peacefully.

Of course, the better the quality of the ingredients, the stronger the benefits, especially when it comes to the unparalleled European olive oil.

Furthermore, this dish also helps deal with digestive problems, gastritis and constipation, thanks to capsaicin, contained in chili peppers.

The dish is also a remedy against insomnia, thanks to the tryptophan contained in the pasta, further enhanced by the virtues of the garlic.

As for the main ingredient of this dish, European olive oil, it is well established that polyphenols, vitamin E, monounsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants are a real panacea for the body, especially against cellular aging and bad cholesterol.

Garlic, as mentioned, should also not be underestimated: it regulates the arterial cardiovascular system and strengthens the immune system.

Chili is also an excellent metabolic activator and supports the digestive system, and it is recognized for its natural antibacterial and analgesic abilities.

The recipe: pour some extra virgin European olive oil in a frying pan, add chopped or crushed garlic and the finely chopped chili peppers.

Over medium heat, let this mix brown for a few minutes. In the meantime, cook the pasta in salted water, and once ready, drain it and pour it in the pan with the mixture, adding a few tablespoons of boiling water, stirring everything together.

Warning: make sure to cook the spaghetti properly.

Here is how: take a spaghetti noodle out of the boiling water, break it in half and look out for a small white dot in the middle, if you see it, then you know they are ready!

In the Corriere della Sera, a leading Italian newspaper, nutritionist and researcher at the National Foundation IRCCS-National Cancer Institute, Anna Villarini, spoke about the surprising characteristics of spaghetti aglio, olio and peperoncino, stating that: 'it is the perfect and balanced recipe to avoid overloading our bodies during the summer.'

So, enjoy the summer with this easy, tasty and healthy recipe.
