In the year of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mediterranean diet won the gold medal for best diet in the world, ahead of the anti-hypertension dash diet which ranked second and the flexitarian diet, a flexible way of eating, which ranked third.
The 2021 best diet ranking released by News & World Report, known globally for writing rankings and advice for consumers, declared the Mediterrenean diet as the winner.
The winning title was obtained by achieving first place in five specific categories: prevention and treatment of diabetes, heart protection, healthy eating, plant-based components and ease of following the diet.
