It’s the season of ‘long evenings’, when the sun seems to be rushing to set below the horizon.

Here is an original, inexpensive and creative idea to make your home even cozier.
Candles made with European olive oil will bring the scents of the Mediterranean into your home, and allow your imagination to flourish. All you need is oil, food coloring, fruit, flowers or colored pebbles.
The olive oil candle is virtually endless: just refill it with some Mediterranean extract, and it will keep warming up your favorite rooms in your home. Also, olive oil candles don’t produce smoke - unlike kerosene candles - maintaining the air clean and fragrant.
So, how do you make one?
Choose a nice-looking container, such as a glass or a jar.
Choose excellent European olive oil, to make the best natural candle. You can either use pure oil or create a mixture with three-quarters water and one-quarter extra virgin olive oil.
Then, fill the container with the extra virgin olive oil, or the mixture of water and oil, until it is about two-thirds full.
At this point you will need a wick: a small square of fairly thick cotton cloth will suffice and, to make it float, we will pass through a small round piece of plastic, perforated in the center, and then place gently on the mixture.
And there’s your European extra virgin olive oil candle: simple, versatile and perfect for a romantic evening, for a dinner with friends or to simply give a Mediterranean touch to a delicious dinner.
Olive oil is an ingredient that never ceases to amaze thanks to its countless benefits and many uses, great on Japanese and European recipes alike.
