The benefits of European extra virgin olive oil are indisputable: decades of scientific research has continuously confirmed and further explored this fact.
Nevertheless, one question is frequently asked by those who are yet unaccustomed to using this precious product: how much of it should be used?
The Valter Longo Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 with the aim of optimizing healthy longevity can answer this question, scientifically, by providing the right quantities of olive oil intake to maximize its health benefits.
"The Foundation reports that, according to the experts, the suggested daily consumption of olive oil should be more than 10-20 grams per day, equal to one or two tablespoons.”
This is the minimum daily suggested consumption to take full advantage of the benefits of olive oil.
Finally, we must not forget that "extra virgin olive oil is the most digestible vegetable oil, thanks to its high content of monounsaturated fatty acids. "The high concentration of oleic acid (65-80%) - as the Foundation states - triggers the reduction of gastric secretion, with preventive and curative action of gastritis and ulcers. Oleic acid favors the digestion of fats, for the stimulating action on the gallbladder. Its chemical structure, then, makes it fluid facilitating the passage along the intestinal mucosa, with a mild laxative effect (if taken on an empty stomach). Moreover, olive oil polyphenols have an important antimicrobial action in the intestine.
